An ever-changing rainbow of volcanic lake flavor
Posted by staff / March 15, 2013 Top World Tourismvolcanic lakeAs if a volcanic lake wasn’t cool enough to light the fires of your imagination, get a load of the color atop Indonesia’s Mount Kelimutu, the various shades of which can be seen in a series of photos at Top World Tourism.
Believed to be a gathering place of the spirits, these three lakes — translated “Lake of Old People,” “Lake of Young Men and Maidens,” and “Bewitched or Enchanted Lake” — change color due to chemical reactions of the minerals in each, varying between red, light blue, deep blue, green and black.
Best viewed at sunrise, tourists can walk from a hotel located right outside of Kelimutu National Park for the beginning of one unforgettable day.
