Man voluntarily swallows toe in whiskey shot
Posted by staff / August 28, 2013For most of us, it would take far more than one shot of whiskey to swallow a human toe. Not so for the American looking for one final hurrah in a bar in Dawson City, Yukon.
The toe is part of a famous Dawson City tradition which involves drinking a shot of whisky. The toe is usually dropped into the glass and the drinker must have the toe touch their lips.
The fine for swallowing the toe was $500, which the patron slapped down on the bar before walking out. Even though the bar has a back-up toe, they’ve upped the fine to $2500, we assumed because human toes don’t come along everyday.
Incredibly, 60,000 people have paid for the privilege of drinking a Sourtoe Cocktail and only eight toes have gone missing since 1973, but they are seeking donations if you’ve got a spare.
Here’s the history of where they got those eight toes if you’re interested, and how to join this special club.
Oh, Canada…
