The National Post article begins with the latest incident in what turns out to be many incidents and not all of which are led by the gorillas:

For the second time in recent months, gorillas have escaped their enclosure at the beleaguered Calgary Zoo.

Zoo officials said several of the apes broke into the keepers’ kitchen, which is attached to their enclosure in the rainforest exhibit.

“There were no injuries to gorilla or staff,” said spokeswoman Trish Exton-Parder.

The zoo said it would not release any more information “out of respect for the individuals involved.”

Turns out that there have been other “bizarre animal escapades” and they include:

…the deaths of dozens of stingrays, a baby elephant, several gorillas, a hippo and an exotic goat, which hanged itself in front of onlookers.

In 2009, the institution made international headlines when a gorilla was photographed holding a knife in its enclosure. No one was harmed and the weapon was safely recovered. That same year, a capybara was crushed to death by a hydraulic door.

Among the fatalities were a spider monkey that was crushed by a door, while another was left outside in the cold.

Mule deer have also died after their keepers tried to catch them so routine veterinary check-ups could be performed.
