What happens to cargo containers lost at sea? [video]

The oceans of the world haven’t gotten any calmer just because we’re shipping millions of cargo containers across them each year, so it’s inevitable a few thousand annually end up at the bottom of the sea.
What happens then, though?
Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute has been studying one of the twenty-four dumped by the Med Taipei in 2004, where some creatures have begun calling it home.
