Fireworks were invented in ancient China, but originally the explosions weren’t made by gunpowder, they were made by exploding bamboo. Eventually, of course, gunpowder was used. It wasn’t until fireworks made it to Europe in the thirteenth century that gunpowder was used as a weapon.
