Vatican Library to put 4000 ancient documents online
Posted by staff / January 6, 2015Was one of your resolutions this year to dive into some classic literature? Well, is today your lucky day, since the Vatican Library plans to throw open 4000 ancient texts to the online public.
The Vatican Apostolic Library will be teaming up with Japanese firm NTT Data to digitize 3000 more of its 80,000 documents using FITS, the same format used by NASA. They are still seeking funding to complete the rest of the collection, which would take at least fifteen years to complete.
Far from just a religious archive, the library, founded in 1451, possesses documents of Michelangelo, Aztec manuscripts, and other priceless objects of world history we could spend a lifetime perusing.
