Uber & Lyft: the taxi industry’s worst nightmare [infographic]
Posted by staff / March 11, 2015If you haven’t personally taken Uber or Lyft, you probably know someone who has.
What you might have wondered while grabbing this relatively new form of transportation is how it’s impacting the traditional taxi industry, and the answer is big time.
In addition to stealing customers, in certain cities, these new drivers are far outpacing the earnings of the traditional sector.
To see the damage (which we won’t call a car wreck, so, you’re welcome), check out this infographic from Discount Park and Ride.
Uber and Lyft are destroying both the livings of their drivers and those of the Taxi drivers. Uber drivers, I’m one, may not even reach the minimum wage!
Uber and Lyft destroy the drivers, you can’t make a living driving for Uber, Lyft, or Taxis,
Uber also get you into a bad deal buying a car with car dealers, you get stuck with terrible monthly payment.
I am a Lyft driver and the number one complaint from riders is that Taxi’s and Uber are rude. Also, many feel that they have been taken advantage of financially from these two rides.
It appears the industry is headed to self-deregulation as Uber and Lyft and other apps are illegal, unregulated operations operating in a regulated industry. If the regulatory agencies throughout America continue to let them operate free of regulation without enforcement, then the yellow cabs will paint them black and adopt Uber business platform and back out all the expensive regulatory costs such as the medallions, 24/7 commercial public auto insurance. The the car services and limos will follow. The public will left unprotected. If this happens , then Uber and Lyft can not possibly survive and will be outnumbered greatly as so many more will indepently appear hustling the streets and airports for any fees they can pick up i e; Newark airport to midtown$12 flat fee plus tip and the driver keeps it all. O’Hare to Loop-$15 plus tip. Many of these Uber drivers are circumventing Uber and hustling the business direct 100% plus tip. Easy to do as they set up their own account with square on their phone and tell the customer Oh I’m uber get in Please give me your card as I have to swipe it. —End of story- No taxes- all free money–Why pay Uber ? It is a disaster waiting to happen as the “perfect storm” is ahead.
Reply to Chuck Cotton. Uber and Lyft don’t condone out of app pickups. If a driver does this he or she is in breach of contract and in danger of losing access to the respective apps. Shirley you don’t think that taxi drivers are all saints or that Uber and Lyft should be accountable for rogue drivers, or do you?
Chuck what you said is happening. I’ve seen it firsthand on a local level. That tells me it’s happening all over the place. Plus I read a lot about it online. Follow the news. Social media etc… I realize it’s a older post, but it’s new to me.
