Why you should keep your car keys in your freezer

I saw this story in a Canadian newspaper a few days ago and today am reading about in the New York Times and that is, that high-tech and expensive car sitting in your driveway? It may be more prone to being stolen than your old clunker and not for the value of it but because it’s high-tech and more easily stolen than cars in the Olden Days.
Here’s what the author Nick Bilton has to say:
How were they able to unlock my car door so easily?
When the police arrived, they didn’t have much of an answer. (The thieves didn’t get away with anything; after all the break-ins, we no longer keep anything in the car.) I called Toyota, but they didn’t know, either (or at least the public relations employee didn’t know).
When I called the Los Angeles Police Department’s communications desk, a spokesman said I must have forgotten to lock my car. No, I assured him, I had not. But his query did make me question my sanity briefly.
I finally found out that I wasn’t crazy in, of all places, Canada. [Emphasis is mine].
The Toronto Police Service issued a news release last Thursday warning that thieves “may have access to electronic devices which can compromise” a vehicle’s security system. But the police did not specify what that “device” actually was.
Lots and lots of info and suggested websites for even more info. And several suggestions about how to protect your vehicle including these top two:
- Park your oldest car behind the new one, blocking it in
- Keep your keys in the freezer, which will act to “hide” the signal

Just a metal tin where every your key spot is will do the trick and you will not need to carry a frozen fob 🙂

put it in an aluminum wallet like the RF credit cards it will shield as much and is lots more portable than the deep freeze
Do not drive high-tech and expensive car. Make it simple.
They don’t need your car keys to unlock it. They can simply use a device that scans codes just like a universal tv remote to find the code. However turning the car on without the key might be problematic with technology these days.
Put them in a small 3X5 metal card box
I tried that once, but I have a habit of putting my keys in my mouth when my hands are full. I talked with a bit of a lisp until my lips and tongue healed.
Take a logging chain and put it through your steering wheel and the frame of your drivers seat with a circular lock like you use at the storage facility, be sure the chain is case hardened as is the lock, it will be safe.
Sleep in your car with a Rottweiler in front seat and you sleep in back seat every night — that is how you keep your car safe and make sure to be a properly trained legal gun expert with a black belt in every martial art.
A microwave makes a much better faraday cage than the freezer, because it’s built for it, and better sealed against RF. Your keys also won’t be frozen and attract moisture everytime you take them out. This actually might be a good use for old unused microwave ovens, preferablally a small one. Keep it in the corner of the kitchen cabinet, and put your phone, wallet and keys in there, along with any other valuables that fit. To be safe cut the two power spades off and be sure to leave the ground, which will make it look like it’s plugged in, and help ground the device. A thief will never think to look in it, and certainly won’t steal a cheap beater microwave. And if you keep your phone in there you won’t get calls or texts bugging you when you don’t want them….
I put my keys on my head and then put tinfoil over my head so they can not see into my brain or key code
keep the car unlocked, just electrify the steering wheel. as a side note, don’t forget to remove the 220 line when you get ready to drive.

Think about this, you have to be a really good thief to built a security.
Put a rope around ur car at night tie it to your wife and sleep easy
Tie a rope and attach the other end to your waist. Work smarter.. not harder..
First off, the article states that thieves are swiping the car, just the hi-tech stuff in it. I think the easiest thing to do is just take the battery out of the FOB. But if they (the thieves) have some device for unlocking the car, what good is it to “hide” your FOB. They don’t need it.

Move someplace where you don’t have to worry about it.
What kind of BS is this? Hide your keys in the freezer so they can not copy the signal. A person has to be gullible to believe this. The signal of a remote does not transmit without pressing it. This is just ridiculous!
Do not forget to carry a freezer to your place and while traveling.
I created a rig to show my dad how easy it was to get into his Mercedes.
I created an antenna with regular wire, attached it to a signal amplifier and at the other end, fashioned another ring shaped antenna. Since he kept his car keys on a hook just inside the front door of his house, I placed one antenna just outside the house and ran the other antenna to his car. The door unlocked and I had access to everything in the car. The plans are readily available on the web and the parts are cheap to purchase and building requires no technical knowledge what-so-ever. Ever since, he keeps his car keys far away from the front door!

You must have a very old car! Most newer luxury cars today will unlock and start the car when the key gets within range of the vehicle.
I think someone already invented something to help prevent car thefts….it’s called a GARAGE!!! Real easy to lock and everything…dope!
I do not have the answer, but I do not think either a Fridge or a Freezer is going to work. Ordinary Radio Shack type thermometers transmit data from inside both my units to an external receiver, about 30 ft away, no problem.
That is what new and improved gets you: costs a lot lot more and does not work as well.
Put your keys under your tin foil hat. That’s what I always do.
The freezer works great, although bungy cording on my back for convience was a bit difficult, I should be out of the ICU in a couple weeks can’t wait to try mounting it on my back again.This time I’ll wrap it in aluminum foil so it’s lighter.
Put a freezer in the front seat.
Smith and Wesson 380 works just fine.
Keeping your car in Canada means it’s in the freezer already.
Buy a military grade signal jamming device and protect your entire neighborhood.
