For hundreds of years, most of what we knew about the giant squid came from seafaring tales or enormous carcasses washing up on shore, but this video gives us a rare glimpse of how their own story begins.

These enormous creatures of the deep live approximately five years and reproduce only once, and they certainly make it count, releasing millions of tiny eggs, which in this video appear to be stars shooting out into the ocean.

The whole reproductive process is a fascinating read (sperm in the arm, anyone?), but skip to the dramatic ending in the following video by starting at the 3:00 mark, and make a wish or two just for fun.
