Posted by staff / March 5, 2010Too many calories and not enough exercise may not be the only culprits in the weight gain epidemic. A new study shows that intestinal bacteria can increase appetite and may play a role in human obesity and metabolic disease.
“Our results suggest that excess caloric consumption is not only a result of undisciplined eating but that intestinal bacteria contribute to changes in appetite and metabolism,” says Andrew Gewirtz of Emory University.
