Climbers conquer uncharted Ennedi Plateau formations of Chad
Posted by staff / June 8, 2011Climbing comes with some hefty risks attached, but when you’re determined to scale formations in the middle of a desert complete with bandits, it’s a camel of a different color.
Mark Synnot, who already lists the Arctic and Central Asia on his resume, wasn’t daunted by the challenge and enlisted fellow climbers Briton James Pearson, Tim Kepler, Renan Ozturk, Alex Honnold and photographer Jimmy Chin to venture into the remote Ennedi Plateau of Chad to go where no climber has gone before.
‘It’s fair to say we were like kids in a candy store’, said climber and photographer Jimmy Chin. ‘This was like finding a new continent for climbers, literally. I was stunned at the rugged nature of the landscape.’
Extreme temperatures and knife-wielding bandits aside, the team accomplished their goal with some amazing footage to prove it.
