DIY lending libraries
Posted by staff / September 9, 2011While lending your neighbor something valuable like a lawn mower or chipper could lead to undue tension over the fence, there are plenty of us that could use a little spring cleaning of the bookshelves for the cause of building community.
The Little Free Library organization encourages neighbors to set up their own little lending libraries using pre-built street-side book houses or those made with the DIY instructions provided on the site, or donate to the cause of bringing the project to new neighborhoods. Not everyone has time to stop by the local library, but if they happen to be walking by, why not say hi with a great read? (Depending on the neighborhood, this also works with shoes, but that’s a story for another time.)
