Have we got a time-waster for you this week!
If you’ve been trying to drive home the point that correlation does not equal causation, you can’t go wrong with the website Spurious Correlations, where you pick a category and then find what kind of crazy, unrelated statistic makes it looks like something funny is going on, such as margarine consumption and the divorce rate in Maine.
Of course, you can also discover if you’re dealing with an absolutely hopeless case, but we’re going to choose to be optimistic about humanity for the moment.
