Being a mama’s boy good for bonobo boy’s sex life

Whether mom is fighting off alpha males or just keeping watch while the deed is done (ew, creepy), the scientists whose study will be published in the journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, believe this may be a way for mom to guarantee some grandbabies, a goal dear to the hearts of mothers everywhere.
Close mother-son relationships serve an evolutionary role in other species, such as orcas and hyenas, and mothers of many primates often protect their daughters’ young; the reason for such strong interest in bonobos is their close link to the human evolutionary chain. This is the species, after all, masturbates with everything from a tree to a doily.
