Bluetooth fun facts
Posted by staff / October 7, 2010Bluetooth, that fun little tech nugget that seems to be nestled in just about everything these days, has quite the historical past it turns out…well, in terms of its name, anyway. Here’s a list of fun facts to use to impress the pants off your techie friends:
- Bluetooth was born in 1994 of the minds of Sven Matisson and Jaap Haartsen of the Swedish telecom company Ericsson in order to standardize the myriad of communications methods being used connect cell phones, computers and remote controls.
- The first Christian monarch of Scandinavia, King Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson is the technology’s namesake. Not only was he known for bringing the frosty north to Jesus, but also united a number of Danish, Swedish and Norwegian tribes into one kingdom.
- The bonus of using Bluetooth over other communications tools is that there are no pesky cables or wires needed and it’s light on the power suckage. The low power radio waves it uses minimizes interference from other users, while enabling up to eight devices to work in conjunction with one another.
