Cambridge posts Sir Isaac Newton’s notes online

Posted by / December 13, 2011

Curl up in front of the fire with enough reading material to last through the spring thaw. Cambridge University has digitized 4,000 pages of notes from scientist and mathematician Sir Isaac Newton. Not exactly a Jodi Picoult novel, but certainly entertaining none the less.

The massive collection includes Newton’s personal copy of his 1687 masterpiece, Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, featuring handwritten notes and edits in the margins.

“Anyone, wherever they are, can see at the click of a mouse how Newton worked and how he went about developing his theories and experiments,” Cambridge University Library’s digitization manager Grant Young shared with the BBC.

Cambridge plans to digitize an additional 8,000 pages of Newton’s work in the coming months.
