Exploring the back streets of China at night

Every alley and street is full of new sights and sounds. Here’s a little HDR Tip, if you wanna… it’s a little complex, but kind of handy. So, what I do is take a series of brackets at 100 ISO. That keeps everything nice and clean for processing. But, things like those red lanterns are a’swingin’ around. So, I take another series at a very high ISO and low Aperture so they are nice and stable. Then, I mask them into the final photo… and I smooth out the transition so it is gradual…

+Trey Ratcliff I'd love to see a video of the masking process for that. I may be overthinking it slightly but it seems like it would be difficult to mask the still parts over the blurry moving parts. Any chance it's in the New Zealand tutorial and maybe I missed that part?

+Trey Ratcliff Dude! thank you for this tip. Every year I shoot Buddha's Birthday here in Korea when they decorate the temples with beautiful lanterns. It is been a tricky process trying to get the lanterns and the tassels/tags sharp. I believe this will be for next year. Thanks again.

Than you for the tip. I have been having this problem with trees … they look fine in the center where the movement is not a problem but on the edges where the sky is they look strange. 😉 This will fix it!
