Fun water balloon luminary DIY project
Posted by staff / December 21, 2009If you’re currently on holidays and aren’t sure what to do with yourself, or the kids—why not try your hand at a fun votive holder DIY project? The process is remarkably easy, though not free of risk. But hey, where’s the adventure without a little danger? Fill a balloon with water, and then dip it up to the water level in melted wax. Lift, and repeat. If you dip above the water line, the whole thing will blow up in your face. After a few times, the exterior of the balloon should be sufficiently waxed to form a rounded solid candle-worthy shape that can hold a small votive or tea light.
Once the wax is cooled, you simply tip the balloon over and drain it. Remove the balloon remnants and voila! It’s best to sit the balloons down on a level surface while they cool to achieve a flat bottom.
This quick, painless and fun craft will keep you and the kids busy, while creating pretty decor to light up your home.
