Still recovering from Valentine’s Day or a lack thereof?
Then pour that tequila with pride and purpose tonight, folks, because it’s National Margarita Day, a celebration for which we need no reason just a salty glass, some lime and liquor!
Chris Preovolos at the San Francisco Gate has a few choice recipes for this basic drink, but if you’re on the East Coast, and it’s too late for fancy, grab some pre-made and raise a toast to it being the weekend.
San Francisco Chronicle’s Classic Maragrita recipe from Kim Haasarud’s “101 Margaritas.”
- Kosher or margarita salt
- (optional) 2 ounces tequila
- 2 ounces simple syrup
- (see recipe)
- 1 ounce Cointreau
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1 lime wheel, for garnish
Instructions:
-
If desired, rim a cocktail glass with the salt. Combine the remaining ingredients, except for the lime wheel, in a cocktail shaker filled with 3/4 cup cubed ice and shake vigorously. Strain into the glass for an “up” margarita; pour with the ice into the glass for “on the rocks.” Garnish with lime wheel.
