Here’s how airports make money

But even if you did buy a lot––which many people do––those purchases still aren’t enough to keep an airport in business. This video looks at the example of Heathrow, an entirely privately-owned airport. For it to break even, each passenger needs to spend nineteen bucks. Everything people buy at the airport goes towards that number, but each business takes a big cut of the expenses. The rest comes from airlines.
