  • Awesome!!!

  • Woah!

  • Nice!

  • I love it & it looks so roomy. ¶ :)}

  • Even with twelve coats of varnish just not seeing the tub looking good after daily exposure to water . Thus probably why you never see wood bathtubs .

  • Nice, but did he have to put it in that bathroom with the ugly tile.

  • I imagine no softscrub should be used on this baby, but I do wonder what it will take to keep it looking this good. Looks great.

  • Interesting very very beautiful

  • That is beautiful .. Nice Job!

  • There is a reason we don't make boats out of wood any more…. Looks very beautiful but not very practical, especially if you have kids! Just needs some ducks with umbrellas stuck to the bottom so you don't slip!

  • Craftsmanship.

  • sweet..

  • Looks like a bowling lane gave its life for this bathtub.

  • But the he puts in a horrible pink tile restroom… Awesome project

  • Looks good and shows great craftmanship, but sits along the same line as mechanical watches.

  • Beautiful!

  • I like the tile but I love the tub

  • Mmmmmm….. I don't know what to say!!! ¬¬

  • Very good    love the look and feel of the wood

  • It looks great, maybe because it has not been used yet. I will like to see a picture a few week from now.

  • Why?

  • …gorgeous, and a great hashtag.

  • That's pretty cool

  • Wow, that's a beautiful tub. I'll have to make one,….one day.

  • So this is a brilliant idea for laid-off canoe craftsmen and craftswomen.  Genius!   Dennis

  • Beautiful tub , Is there not another sealer that could be used?

  • wow nice

  • Never seen a bathtub like that before. That is real special.

  • Sealing this thing to keep it beautiful will be the issue.  It would have to be sealed with some kind of ultra plastic or epoxy.  I've not seen one that's good for more than a few years when subjected to ultraviolet exposure.  If this is out of sunlight, I'd give it 5 years max.

  • Well that is gonna put a damper on my plans for outdoor wooden tub bathing. Thanks a lot Gregg!

  • maybe they can make a ceramic tile (corian)  that has a glaze to mimic the wood. I don't see why not. then it would last and no worries about re-varnishing.

  • Maurice

    This boat is inside out

  • With the tub floor being flat you would have to seal the tile grout VERY well or you could fall a story . In my case due to no sealed grout I almost fell threw my bathroom into my garage naked . Seriously . All hail hardy board !

  • Wooden bathtub…a.k.a, "a boat".

  • That is sooo nice , In fact it's beautiful

  • I second that +Glenn Casto. Cement board is the way to go. This tub is beautiful though. A work of art 🙂

  • +Inez Schneider This is some really nice work, wood is always the way to go!

  • contrary to what many said, properly taken care of with some sanding and a new layer of varnish once a year, it will last forever. Of course, the piping will have to be done properly, so no humidity will hurt the underside. (better still, put the tub on legs and keep the underside open so no humidity will be locked in.)
but I have to agree, butt ugly tiles!, he should have made some wooden tiles to go with the tub.

  • Amazing workmanship a really beautiful piece.

  • Refinishing every year is not my idea of lasting forever!

  • Gregg wonderly, it is wood, and that is the way to keep wood forever.

  • +arromazam pepe do you think that using a marine finish would cut down on maintenance?

  • I understand that is how to maintain wood that is under active use and stress. But, as a Bathtub, it's more of a pain because you have to do that on place

  • My bad, the article does say he used 12 layers of marine-grade varnish. That's impressive!!

  • +Tim Schmidt what do mean we don't build boats out of wood anymore? Of course we do. Boats from any material must be properly constructed and maintained to achieve maximum longevity. I don't find my wooden boat to be any more difficult or expensive to look after than the aluminum and fiberglass boats I've had. I fully expect that it will last several decades without major wear-and-tear repairs. About the same as fiberglass or riveted aluminum.

  • All that work, framed by cheap pink tile.

  • I bet it would float on top of itself, right

  • What does it weigh? Stunning

  • Sweet as….

  • The reflective nature of the inside suggests that it has gloss-like finish. Wouldn't that be dangerous? It would cause slipping.

  • +Wale SANNI Would it be any more slippery than a smooth ceramic or vinyl tub?

  • 🙂

  • That there's a cozy looking tub!

  • That is a nice lookin tub

  • This is awesome this reminds me of lanes in a bowling alley.

  • That's Really Pretty!

  • verry very well presented, realy like how you think

  • shinny

  • Bath splinters ftw! Looks great though

  • That's beautiful.  And w/ a decent coat of PU it should be water & splinter proof enough ;D

  • Very nice!  How long does the finish last?

  • Sanded down very nicely…good touch to the firmness of the wood.

  • knocked one up out of roof latts last week simples

  • Brilliant but get a girlfriend

  • no

  • i would love to roll around in that thing

  • Hmm? I want one of these I think…

  • Right, +David Smith…because the only worthwhile thing to do in life is have a girlfriend.

  • good

  • What was the point? It is beautiful in itself, but with those PINK tiles the whole thing just looks vile.  What a shame.

  • I believe this knows what he is doing, wood en water on daily basis, it does look great

  • Real craftsmen are a dying breed. This man proves that some still exist to this day. How many of us, practicality aside, read this article and secretly in the back of our minds thought "I would love to build something like that"? Minus those super mega fugly tiles.

  • Funny, they used to make canoes just like that!

  • Wood and water doesn't go well together! Yes, I've read the article, and still think that it's not altogether a foolproof idea for a bathtub.

  • To me it's alike coffin…lol

  • Man that looks sweet

  • I wonder how slippery it might be to get out of? A user will need a no slip mat.

  • Woah.

    /Keanu

  • +Michael Facente you dont need to worry about leaks outside. 🙂 My friend build a wooden hot tub thats lasted a decade so far.

  • One word! Splinters! 🙂

  • How many ppl did it take to move it into its present location is the question, great craftsmanship though!!!

  • Beautiful

  • SICK

  • Class!

  • Wow

  • Its very nice but not along lasting tub ,just for decoration of the house.

  • Nice

  • I like it and how long did it?

  • I prefer wooden boats that keep me out of the water, but to each their own.

  • This is very cool! I'm going to have to make one myself.

  • I think the beauty pageant people are missing the point… You could make this from ratty wood and lay FG/resin over it. Then, the wood would insulate like crazy and keep the heat in, while having a fiberglass contact surface. Could be made of scrap wood… Blah blah blah…

  • love it

  • maybe during the times of antiquity, this wash basin would have sold for millions.

  • don't get any splinters with that

  • Love it.

  • hai

  • Beautiful

  • wow

  • nice

  • like tha make how much 4 one

  • Hey guys I'm battling to create my blackberry ID

  • +Tim Schmidt …and others in doubt. The word you may wish to look up is "Ofuro". Maintenance, yes – but all things worth having need TLC.

  • L

  • sorry but an old claw-footed tub looks better.

  • Works for a boat.

  • That's so cool, brotha

  • So nice

  • Sweet as….

  • Beautiful!!

  • Aah!! what would be his feelings after he fitted it in the bath… I always love the sense of achievement after a DIY project with a genuine idea.

  • The next Google phone, completely made our of cherry wood… 😉

  • I'm sorry, but all I can think about is getting a splinter in my butt.

  • Beautiful, but what an unfortunate choice of tile.

  • I want to know what is sounds like when you fill it?

  • I bet it leaks. Not that good is it.

  • Making wood in a tub… not so uncommon.  Making tub out of wood… huh!

  • I think it looks a lot better than a regular tub

  • Bad ass

  • Impresionante. Que herramientas habrán usado? Serán Bellota?

  • Like building a wooden boat, but keeps water in not out. It's beautiful.

  • Groovy

  • SPLINTERS

  • That is very cool.and a beautiful piece

  • Too bad he's got that pink tile surround. The tub itself is fantastic.

  • Big deal.  I make wood every morn—oh, wait, I read that wrong.

  • ..

  • It looks smooth enough so there would not be splinters in the wrong place.  🙂

  • i would love to go sledding in that…

  • Are there other views?

  • Insane and Amazing

  • Good job

  • Amazing…but the bathroom in which the poor tub ended up is not that design-y. These tiles…

  • Hmm, Coffin? 🙂

  • The wood is really shiny!

  • Outstanding workmanship!

  • Nice. I wish i could have one.

  • +Jeff Patterson sorry for the delay. personaly, I do not like the marine stuff, or any kind of paint on wood for that matter, the marine stuff will ceirtainly do the job, even with only 4-5 coats, "12 coats" is overkill, but ask any chinese how do you do real lacker, and you will die on the spot. I like my wood clean, all woodwork I do just gets some oil or hot wax on it, I would never do a bathtub for that reason, unless I just wax it and use it anyway, if you do not soak the wood, and let it dry compleatly after use, wax will do the trick too, of course, the weather must be 'wood friendly" too.

  • Thanks +arromazam pepe for your explanation. Wood is so beautiful and as such needs a bit of care. But there isn't another material like it in the world.
