The performers on Comedy Central’s roasts are told to be edgy, to take risks. Norm MacDonald knew he wasn’t the type to push the envelope like some other comedians, so he took his own risk: he read from a book of crummy old jokes. And he stuck to it. The result was beautiful, awkward, hilarious, and horrifying.
