North Korea’s nuclear test – not an “earthquake” as the world first thought
Posted by staff / February 12, 2013 North Koreanuclear testLast night I went to bed believing that there had been an earthquake in North Korea and this morning I awoke to learn that it had actually been a nuclear test.
Aside from the fact that this test (and it’s indeed a continuing pattern with North Korea) is against UN security council sanctions, it’s more than unsettling for those countries neighboring them – and to the US.
North Korea Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement on the country’s news agency:
“If the United States continues to come out with hostility and complicates the situation, we will be forced to take stronger, second and third responses in consecutive steps.”
As expected, the world response has been overwhelmingly negative. Watch as the story unfolds here at The New York Times.
