A Maryland man and three others received organ transplants last year from someone who had died, unknowingly at the time, of rabies.
The Maryland man has succumbed and the other three are currently receiving shots to prevent disaster.
Rabies almost always causes death. It’s a viral disease that spreads in the body, along the peripheral nerves, to the brain where it causes acute encephalitis (swelling of the brain).
