Saving penguins one sweater at a time
Posted by staff / March 7, 2014 fairy penguinsPenguin Foundationpenguin sweaterWe’re not sure the rest of the animal kingdom is as fond of our tendency to dress up everything that moves in homemade knitwear, but crafty generosity can certainly come in handy when we mess up their environment in other ways.
First off, no penguin sweaters are needed at this point. Repeat, there is no urgent need for penguin sweaters, according to the Penguin Foundation on Phillip Island in Australia, which uses the clothing to protect the feathers of fairy penguins who fall victim to oil spills. The oil causes their feathers to separate, leaving them vulnerable to cold, and therein, the need arises for teeny penguin sweaters to protect those natural tuxedos.
Monetary donations are always welcome, but if you just can’t help yourself, there’s also a downloadable penguin sweater pattern available to produce a little somethin’-somethin’ for the person on your gift list that has almost everything.
