Terrifying footage of a helicopter lending on a ship in stormy seas
Posted by Josh Taylor / November 27, 2016This is a knuckle-whitening vid, so don’t watch if you’re not up to the intensity. Watch from both the pilot’s perspective and the ship captain’s perspective as this helicopter lands in stormy seas.
Full story at YouTube.
Wow, they lend? Like as in a bank?
Hmmm, and lending doesn’t even mean landing in Norwegian…. It’s ‘land’ even in Norwegian; big typo. lol
lol@the typo.
Lending? Landing? Hmmmmm…..
Was the ship broke? How much did the helicopter lend it?What was the interest rate?
Another wanna be reporter coping somebody LOL you could work for Yahoo..
I wasn’t scared at all
It is really terrifying. It wound have been more terrifying if the helicopter is attempting to land on the ship.
I was the HCO on the USS Vincennes, I have see landing in worse weather than this.
terrifying to whom,, maybe the guy who wrote this article,, or I guess they need to put that in to have people look at when you are a mediocre writer,, get a life ,, that was a standard ship lading in a 60
With the financial market as up and down as it could be, maybe lending is the right word over landing.
Yeah, that was REALLY “terrifying.” A non-story and certainly not worth an article.
How’d I get here?
Some get yahoo a spell checker…….lol
Please check and edit your documents before you post them. They look foolish otherwise!
Spellcheck went down…
As a former MEDEVAC pilot involved in rescues and landings in adverse conditions my hat is off to the pilot and crew of the helicopter and ship. All the comments about typos seem ridiculous compare to great video that was provide for viewing.
Lend me another 30 seconds of life for the time i wasted typing this
where was the other windshield wipers…. why is only one ever showing… then two.. from the other views AMEN AMEN
Wow! Terrifying example of poor journalism and even worse proofing.
The United States Marines can do this with one eye closed and a hand tied behind their back in the dark! And Ia ma ex Air Force, these guys need more training!!!LOL
Lending. Are you people joking me?
Watch out for “Her testes” in the beginning!
What’s sad is this is pervasive in newspapers and on sites. I guess re-reading (proof reading) is old hat
and in decline just like our language. Within an article is bad enough but a headline?!
Yahoo. Please hire some real writers! Who can spell.
I work on the maintenance side of the UH-60 world. I see a lot of faults entered pertaining to what is broken. Best typo ever was “LANDING GEAR WILL NOT RETRACT”. I told people we had better get engineers and Sikorsky on this issue and redesign the aircraft so we can sign the fault off……. They meant “Landing LIGHT will not retract”.
Around the clock, in all weather conditions, our pilots at sea do this all the time. There are no margins for error. It is only intimidating for those who have never done it.
Wait until after the inauguration in January. The they won’t have to lend anything anymore Trump has plenty of money.
I think the writer should go back to school. maybe his boss can LEND him some books on spelling. You mean this writer actually draws a paycheck from his stories. Hey Dummy it’s Landing on a ship.
Yes, it looks scary, but if they were not sure everything would work I don’t think they’d be doing it.
If the speed is matched and the helicopter can power down its rotors fast enough that a wind gust
will not pick it up and toss it into the sea, and it looks like it was not getting tossed while in the air,
it should plunk down on the deck and stay there. The thing is how many tons of metal, not going
to be moving around … but very impressive and fun to watch nonetheless. That looks like an
American Destroyer design … what were the ships and helicopter, actually?
Terrifying footage of an idiot who does not know how to spell…..christ….
It is sad enough our educational system is so bad, but then websites like yahoo and holykaw hire uneducated idiots who cannot even do the very thing they were hired to do…use grammatical structure properly and SPELL.
The only reason “X”, above, is so adamant and picky about spelling is that for years he could not spell his own name …. “X”, but now that he can none of the rest of us will every hear the end of it.
I wonder what the interest rate was?
I hope they didn’t have outrageous lending fees or interest rates.
The lending was rough, lotta paperwork.
The two flag men standing on the landing deck had their life in danger.
I found this article on yahoo news and even they have the typo! At least if a news organization is going to repost a story you’d think they’d fix a typo in the effing title!
i saw worse when i was on the halsey powell
THis was a great landing and under very dangerous conditions.. No matter what anyone says’s these pilots are absolutely wonderful, they are a credit to the service. If I was captain of this ship, I would post these fine folks for medals of bravery
oh I see, the heli is just lending the floor of the ship. it doesnt own the ship’s landing floor actually
I got it.
Pay them more, then they wont need to Lend.
Read the typo, came for the comments. Was not disappointed!
Cool,Helicopter are fun to land in stormy weather.More big storm more fun
The purpose of Alltop is to help you answer the question, “What’s happening?” in “all the topics” that interest you. You may wonder how Alltop is different from a search engine. A search engine is good to answer a question like, “How many people live in China?” However, it has a much harder time answering the question, “What’s happening in China?” That’s the kind of question that we answer. http://alltop.com/ (Pronounced Holy Cow, as in Holy KAWasaki)
very cool video – if you think about it – the term touchdown works better over all. since most aircraft have wheels( including the one in the video), however some have skids. some time ago i learned the term wheels up / wheels down. but to follow the lending joke, we should call it decking since they are landing on the deck of a ship!!
Yeah, yeah…..We all can clearly see the “lending” typo. But most of us have not a clue to the real danger a landing
situation like that brings.
Where is that, Lake Michigan? I kind of liked this video. Some flying skill. https://youtu.be/PQLnmdOthmA
wheres the editor on this lol
Lending ?? Holy Kaw is right ………….
This was Mild. Yes, he made a typo.
Having spent 20yrs in the Navy, mostly on FF’s and FFG’s, I’ve seen a LOT worse scenarios than this!
I’ve seen twin rotor Chinooks slide off an icy flight deck of an AO while up near Russia, slings break while transporting Nukes, Landings during Typhoons off the coast of Japan. Weather that no normal person would ever want to be in, but when they call Flight Quarters, you dress up and get out there! And lets not forget, Marines (and their pilots) are a Department OF the Navy! Go Navy!
The helicopter is usually winched down onto the landing pad during rough seas.
Nothing ‘scary’ except for the guy hooking up the winch cable.
The typo was not Yahoo!, the original clip taken from YouTube has the mistake by the person posting it! DUH
Thats what we train for A NAVY VETERAN
I knew lending standards were tightening up, but now you have to swim through gale force winds and choppy, rolling, seas just to get a mortgage loan? Oh, wait, that’s the EASY part of buying a home these days! 🙂
This is nothing. I have worked FF/FFG/Spruance Destroyers/Cruisers my entire career. Currently there is a RAST system that pulls the helo to the deck. This helo is a Sikorsky SH-60 variant. I have worked the small flight deck for 20 years in the and the most scariest landings are with a SH-2F and no RAST system in state 4 seas (30 to 40 degrees of roll and 30 degrees of pitch (up and down). That’s scary and requires a lot of nerve and skill for both the aircrew and the deck crew..
Here is proof that going to school is a TOTAL waste of money. Here we have a pre schooler writing an article.
I hope the helicopter lended safetly
I served in the Royal Dutch Navy. We landed heli’s in all weather conditions with No repeat No problems. We had on every vessel a loop welded to the deck. In that loop the heli locked its winch cable when it was above the deck. Than it winched itself to the deck while pushing upward with the blades. Never lost landing gear again. This system was thought out by a Navy Sgt who received 20,000 guilders for the idea!
No sooner did the crew lend than it was attacked and killed by a pair of vindshield vipers.
Get it? ‘Lend’.
@ NAVY CHOP Congratulations! You WIN the internet.
