I don’t think I exaggerate when I say that Green Day was, unequivocally, the best band of the 1990s and early 2000s. Now that that’s out of the way, what songs from their incredible discography make the top ten?
10. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).
Every high school slide show since this song came out is significantly better because of it.
9. American Idiot
Personally, I prefer earlier Green Day, but this more recent song definitely deserves to be on the list.
8. Hitchin’ a Ride
I love this song because it’s so much different from their speedy pop-punk sound.
7. Platypus (I Hate You)
Speaking of speedy pop-punk…
6. Stuart and the Avenue
This song is just so stupidly catchy you can’t help but love it.
5. Brain Stew/Jaded
What an epic combo. The slow march of Brain Stew transitions perfectly to Jaded.
4. Welcome to Paradise
Duh.
3. 2000 Light Years Away
This song is a damn masterpiece. How can you top it?
2. Christie Road
This song presages their more sophisticated, later music without sacrificing the intensity.
