This little piggy went to the tiger cage?
Posted by staff / July 5, 2010If you’re in need of a pick-me-up today, look no further than this smile-inducing story of a depressed mother tigress who, after losing a litter of three premature baby cubs, found her way back to happiness thanks to the creativity and resourcefulness of a few veteranarians.
After sadly discovering there were no properly aged cubs around the country to introduce to the mourning mother, the team decided that perhaps piglets dressed as baby cubs might do the trick. And so, with no idea if the plan would work or not they placed the piglets in the tigress’ cage and instead of turning the babies into pork chops, the grieving mother got her maternal groove back. Incredible.
Edit: The photos above were taken in 2004 at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand. And while the photos seem adorable and innocent, the baby pigs were not placed inside the tigress’ cage for functional reasons. Rather, these types of tiger-pig nursing relationships are a controversial form of entertainment for zoo go-ers.
