Trey Ratcliff in New Zealand
Posted by Annie May / June 17, 2013 New Zealandsouth island of New ZealandTrey RatcliffNew Zealand – from Trey Ratcliff.
Which LOTR movie featured this mountain?
I just shared a photo of where I was flying with a chopper yesterday across the central part of the south island of New Zealand, and I thought you’d like to see another image from the same area. This is the mountain you saw in the distance – Mount Cook. I think it was in one of the Lord of the Rings movies? Or maybe The Hobbit? One of you smarties will know! 🙂
Anyhoo, this shot is from a closer vantage point to one of the roads that heads down into a dead-end at the end of the valley… I have more photos over at www.StuckInCustoms.com!
Amazing capture
ohh………. that place is so beautiful……like a paradise
Excellent, Trey! 🙂
Beautiful scenery… Well done…!
Would it be from either Fellowship of the Ring as Caradhras, or Return of the King with the 'light the beacons' scene? Or maybe The Hobbit?
I'm straight up guessing.
I don't kown
I think it was the Hobbit…the mountain that they showed us in the creation diaries vid was exactly like that
The Two Towers maybe. I have 33% chance of being right.
The hobbit!
Amazing pic
What a amazing shot
Wow, fantastic photo capture!
Fantastic combination of that blue mountain and sky top and yellow earth bottom.
Amazing!
That would be the Fellowship of the ring, before they are forced to turn back to go into the Mines of Moria.
That is remarkable you are good but I know you know that
Hmn, good question! My gut feeling is that this was Caradhras in FotR and TT, but it could have been one of the White Mountains of Gondor/Rohan.
Either way, beautiful mountain, awesome clouds and a great photo of the vanishing road. 🙂
The Fellowship of The Ring
Muy serca del "cielo"
Awesome truly breathtaking.
Two Towers. (???). You will let us know… Right, Trey?
Very Good Trey, Reminds me of Banff in Canada.

woow its anice road.
Nice
Very cool pic !
This area was where they filmed a lot of the scenes for The Hobbit. But at the end of the road where Mt. Cook village is there is a smaller part of this range known as Mt. Sebastapol which was the backdrop to the scene in The Return of the King when Gandalf rides to the City of Minas Tirith. They superimposed the city of the actual village – +Trey Ratcliff
Gorgeous. Almost looks like a composite.
Pure!
I want to go here and just keep driving. Or maybe just sit on the side of the road and stare into space.
We once stopped on this road because, well, it's very hard to describe it, but it was like there was an invisible line drawn from one side of the road to the other. On our side of the road, it was dry and the sun was hot, beating down from a clear blue sky. On the other side of this line, it was a torrential downpour, and it was creating a distinct line across the road. Standing in the sunshine dry, take one step forward, and we'd have been saturated in seconds. Very cool, very spectacular. 🙂
Amazing
Wow! Just plain speechless!

Nice composition! The road leads your eyes to the mountain peak in the distance. I also like how the shadowy foreground gives way to a brighter hue down the road (literally).
