Tylor Swift’s use of middle eights is genius

Most pop songs have nearly the exact same formula: verse, chorus, verse, chorus, middle eight, verse, chorus. What’s the middle eight, you ask? It’s that short breakdown towards the end of the song that doesn’t have anything to do with the rest of the song. Taylor Swift, for example, often talks during her middle eights, and as this video points out her use of the middle eight is often a clever throwback to the years of pop past.
