Where “Ok” came from
Posted by Josh Taylor / September 16, 2018The word “ok” (or “okay,” or “o.k.”) is among the most recognizable words in the world. But where did it come from? There have been rumors that “ok” came from Choctaw word and any other number of origins. The word is actually rather new, dating to the 1830s. It comes from an abbreviation for “all correct” that was popularized during the presidential election of 1840. It gained further popularity when telegraph operators began using the phrase.
