Winning horse has new career…as artist.

Fun horse

Metro Meteor, a 10-year-old horse that was, in his day, one of the fastest turf horses at Belmont and Saratoga, has a new career as an artist and has already sold his paintings and earned about $20k so far. We’re not talking the owner or the jockey here, but the horse himself has become a painter.

Says the Toronto Star:

Metro Meteor’s new career is racing ahead so fast that some people are ponying up thousands of dollars for a Metro original and a gallery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is showcasing his work.

On Thursday, an anonymous buyer from Kingston, Ont., paid $2,100 on ebay for an 11×14 painting on watercolour paper entitled “Passion Fruit.”Ron Krajewski and his wife, Wendy, adopted the horse with no idea that he had a potential Jackson Pollock on his hands.

Says his owner, Ron Krajewski, an artist himself, he noticed the horse’s head was always bobbing up and down, and he wondered if he put an easel in front of him and a paintbrush in his mouth, what would happen. All Krajewski does is to pick the color. “He produces strokes that I could not do.”

Now that word is out, Metro Meteor has helped draw attention to the needs of post-racing racehorses and the possibility of adoption. Good job!
