NJ man arrested with guns, grenade launcher, and Nazi paraphernalia
Posted by Ivan Vaquero / August 22, 2019On July 24, Joseph Rubino lost control of his white Chevy van and crashed into a tree. When police arrived and began helping him out of his car, they saw the guns. A pile of assault-style weapons and ammunition. This led police to search his home, where they found more than a dozen other weapons, drugs, Nazi paraphernalia, and other openly racist documents––including what appears to be a manual for owning a slave. He was charged in federal court for unlawful possession of a firearm and drug offenses.
Rubino is just one of the more than two-dozen people arrested on over mass-attack threats since the shootings in Dayton and and El Paso.
After the series of three mass shootings earlier this summer–– El Paso, Texas; Dayton, Ohio; and Gilroy, California––President Donald Trump signaled that he would support enhanced background checks for firearm purchases. Less than two weeks later, he has already walked back his initial support.
“People don’t realize we have very strong background checks right now,” he told reporters. “If you go in and buy a gun, you have to sign up. There are a lot of background checks that have been approved over the years. So I’ll have to see what it is.” Trump also said he wants the country to bring mental institutions back to popularity.
