The COVID pandemic is changing things in Britain like few things have since the Second World War. For the first time in her 68-year reign, the Queen has asked that there be no celebration of her birthday.

Other British people are making changes, as a well. According to a recent poll, only about 10% of Britons want life to go back to normal. They have noticed that the air is cleaner, wildlife is returning, and they feel a stronger sense of community.

British redditors have confirmed the poll results, with one user sharing:

 

Before the lock down my road was screaming at each other about proper wheelie bin placement and car parking spaces.

Now they’re organising a social distancing party (getting drunk with sitting in our doorways with decorations) for VE day.

I’ve no idea what the fuck is going on.

It’s like getting woken up from the matrix. People are getting a chance to actually think about life and what’s important. Usually we are just batteries, being used to keep the economy ticking over. What does it say about our society that it took a pandemic to get us to start being nice to each other.
