If Bill Cosy wants to return to his estate, he must register as a sex offender
Posted by Josh Taylor / July 27, 2018Once considered the quintessential family man, Bill Cosby is all but a social pariah. Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offenders Assessment Board recommended that a judge declared Cosby a “sexually violent predator,” but even the “three counts of aggravated indecent assault in Philadelphia is sufficient for Massachusetts authorities to require him to register here if he spends four days in one month or 14 days in a year in the Bay State, state officials confirmed yesterday.” How the mighty have fallen.
Read MoreSimon Pegg and Henry Cavill offer a British slang lesson
Posted by Josh Taylor / July 27, 2018Some words in British slang are pretty easy to translate: lift for elevator, for example. Others have entered the American lexicon, like copper for police. But other examples of British slang can be downright incomprehensible, like corker or “all mouth and no trousers” or “dumb squib.” If you heard those in the wild, as an American, you’d be perplexed. So before you take a trip to Jolly Old, you should watch Simon Pegg and Henry Cavill teach you the basics of British slang.

Posted by Josh Taylor / July 26, 2018Not all news is created equal. Some news is bought and paid for, and unfortunately even your local evening news is not reliable. Take a look at this mashup of Sinclair-owned news stations. The Sinclair Broadcast Group is a publicly traded company, but it’s controlled by the family of its founder, Julian Sinclair Smith. The company has been criticized for its conservative slant. This clip shows the power of the company to control what millions of Americans see, and any bias whatsoever will have a major impact. This is extremely dangerous to our democracy.

Posted by Josh Taylor / July 26, 2018Sacha Baron Cohen has always had a knack for getting people to say things that are against their own interest. But in this clip, he outdoes even his most intense performances. He convinced Jason Spencer, a Georgia state lawmaker, to fake an Asian accent and––wait for it––shout the N word. Lord knows what Spencer was thinking, but now Spencer is stepping down. Here is the clip in question. Obviously there is some offensive language herein, since the dummy has to step down for yelling the N word.

Posted by Josh Taylor / July 25, 2018A seventeen-year-old English footballer joined joined his first team at eight years old. But he never felt included, and he was never picked to play in matches. Eventually, he found a disability team to play with. Then, he had the urge to do something even bigger: coach his own team. He called it Adversity United, and, in his words, it is a “disability football club for boys and girls aged six to 12 years who have social, behavioural, physical or cerebral challenges.”
Read MoreWhat the prostate does
Posted by Josh Taylor / July 25, 2018The prostate: you might know it best from those roadside signs about men getting their prostates checked after forty years old. The uneducated feminists and PC-warriors among you might think, “Hey, what about women’s prostates! Don’t they need to be checked?” If you thought that, you above all need to watch this video because only men have prostates. They play a critical role in producing the fluid the protects sperm on their way to the ova. The prostate also poses a serious health risk to older men. Here’s why.

Posted by Josh Taylor / July 24, 2018Just as is the case with people, countries have their own unique skills and talents. Argentina, for example, has the best meat eaters in the world. Argentines eat over sixty five kilograms of meat per year. Bolivia produces more Brazil nuts than any other country, which is something to be proud of. Other records aren’t so great. China produces the most CO2 emissions of any country in the world, for example, and Colombia produces the most cocaine. See the rest in the video below.
Read MoreTrump and Russia: thinking about the most interesting articles from around the web
Posted by Josh Taylor / July 24, 2018Donald Trump was inaugurated President of the United States almost exactly a year and a half ago, as of this writing. For the vast majority of that time, a dark cloud has hung over the Trump administration: alleged collusion between Republican party officials, Trump campaign staff, or even the Trump himself and the malicious Russian agents. In May of 2017, Robert Mueller was appointed as special council for the Department of Justice to investigate Russian interference with the 2016 Presidential Election and U.S. citizens’ collusion therewith.

Posted by Josh Taylor / July 23, 2018The Cold War ended nearly thirty years ago, but there’s another Cold War brewing says top CIA expert on Asia Michael Collins. “I would argue … that what they’re waging against us is fundamentally a cold war — a cold war not like we saw during THE Cold War (between the U.S. and the Soviet Union) but a cold war by definition,” he said. He also warned that we need to be careful not to overlook China as we deal with tensions between the US and Russia.

Posted by Josh Taylor / July 23, 2018What would happen if you set off a nuke in the Marianas Trench? That may sound like the premise of a silly sci-fi movie on the order of, say, The Core, but this video takes a scientific look at the question. It examines what would happen if the largest nuclear bomb ever built, the Tsar Bomba, was detonated in the Marianas Trench. While that same bomb on the surface would kill everything within a 600-square mile zone, that deep under the sea it wouldn’t do much. The video explains why.
Read MoreScientology-linked rehab facility closed in Tennessee
Posted by Josh Taylor / July 22, 2018Controversy has swirled around Scientology for years, particularly around its live-in facilities. Many critics have accused these facilities––some for Scientology members who have allegedly offended the group, others for drug rehabilitation––have ben prisons. Despite the accusations and a few documentaries that have found these so-called prison facilities, there has been very little evidence supporting these critics’ claims. This story, however, seems to link Scientology to such facilities. From the article: “The man being held there tells the officers he is being held against his will and is given unknown medications. He explains that he is there to have rehab and get cleansed though Scientology.”
Read MoreHere’s how airports make money
Posted by Josh Taylor / July 22, 2018How often do you go to the airport without buying a single a thing? Probably pretty often, if you’re even the least bit frugal. But even if you did buy a lot––which many people do––those purchases still aren’t enough to keep an airport in business. This video looks at the example of Heathrow, an entirely privately-owned airport. For it to break even, each passenger needs to spend nineteen bucks. Everything people buy at the airport goes towards that number, but each business takes a big cut of the expenses. The rest comes from airlines.
