A Louisiana police officer who shot a teen in the back, for example, and then follow officers protected him.
The toxicity of the police such that labor coalitions are booting them. Seattle’s largest labor coalition has booted the Seattle police union from its ranks, citing the force’s unwillingness to confront internal racism.
Lori Pollock was supposed to be promoted to chief of detectives for the NYPD, but instead she was demoted to the head of the Office of Collaborative Policing. Having a secure, family-like environment in a tough job is definitely a good thing, but like any family, the police can become unhealthy. When officers start protecting brothers and sisters who cross a line, like the Louisiana police officer who shot a teen in the back, then it might be time to rethink things.
