Democrats call for Barr’s impeachment or resignation
Posted by Jimmy Cooper / May 2, 2019Attorney General William Barr, whose summary of the Mueller report drew ire from many critics––including Mueller himself––is even more political trouble after his testimony before Congress on Wednesday.
According to a source in the justice department speaking to the AP, Mueller wrote a letter to Barr days after the report dropped. According to the source, Mueller’s letter expressed frustration that Barr’s report misrepresented the team’s findings. The letter, which can be read here, expresses frustration that Barr confused the public about the nature of the report.
Democratic presidential nominee hopeful Elizabeth Warren has called for his resignation in a tweet: “AG Barr is a disgrace, and his alarming efforts to suppress the Mueller report show that he’s not a credible head of federal law enforcement. He should resign.” Julián Castro, another hopeful for the nomination, has also called for Barr’s resignation.
Barr is set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, but he said he will not talk about the Mueller report. His threats raised the possibility that he will be held in contempt of Congress.
Barr has also come under fire after admitting that he did not review the underlying evidence of the Mueller report before deciding he would not pursue charges of obstruction of justice against the president. Barr said this was standard Department of Justice practice.
Some critics have accused Barr of acting as the president’s personal defense attorney, and some have even called for his impeachment.
More politics.
I wonder how this will turn out!
Did they change there minds, or did he cheat his way in the first time?
