O’Rourke advocates for comprehensive gun control plan following Texas shooting
Posted by Annie May / September 2, 2019Beto O’Rourke has been advocating for his comprehensive gun control in the wake of a shooting in West Texas that left at least 7 people dead. The plan calls for, among other things, a mandatory buyback of assault rifles.
In a campaign speech, O’Rourke called the shooting “fucked up.” He released a tweet with the same message.
Once again, Beto O’Rourke’s actions beg the question: is he making political hay out of shootings to revive his dying campaign? After the shooting in El Paso, Texas that left twenty people dead, Beto quickly tied the shooting to Trump––an easy task, considering the shooter allegedly posted a manifesto tinged with white nationalism and open hatred against immigrants.
“Yes. We’ve had a rise in hate crimes every single one of the last three years, during an administration where you have a president who’s called Mexicans rapists and criminals,” Beto said. “He is a racist, and he stokes racism in this country. It does not just offend our sensibilities; it fundamentally changes the character of this country, and it leads to violence.”
What’s more, Beto also said that he believes Trump is a white nationalist. This led to a brief twitter feud between the two.
