Poll reveals Americans among most stressed people in the world
Posted by Thomas Bush / April 27, 2019In a massive poll of over 150,000 people around the world, Americans rank among the most stressed out people on the planet. Some 55 percent of adults reported experiencing stress during “a lot of the day,” with another 45 percent feeling “a lot” of worry the previous day. Compare those numbers to 35 and 39 percent, respectively.
There is are some discernible patterns among those experiencing the most negative emotions. People under 50 earning low incomes and holding negative views about President Trump tend to be those experiencing negative emotions. It’s too soon to tell, however, if those caused the negative emotions or are merely exacerbating the problem.
There are like countless factors leading to the rise in negative emotions, including the American obsession with social media, the pressure younger people face in an increasingly competitive job market all while wages aren’t keeping up with the cost of living, or the widening gap between liberals and conservatives which makes Americans feel as though they’re living in an unstable political climate.
But it’s not all bad. As any parent will tel you, low lows are often counterbalanced by high highs. Americans report, on average, more positive emotions than the rest of the world. So there’s that.
