According to a report by the Atlantic, when Trump lied about why he couldn’t visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in 2018, he insulted the dead buried there by calling them “suckers” and “losers” for dying in war. He also didn’t understand why the United States helped the Allies. Some veterans groups have, unsurprisingly, blasted Trump for his disrespect. Trump is indeed facing increasing fallout from his comments, and those comments may wind up costing him the military/veteran vote.

This isn’t the first time that Trump has run afoul .Vets also took issue with Trump’s handling of the Oregon protests. Before that, a group of anti-Trump veterans called VoteVets has launched an all-out assault on President Trump, called him “America’s Number One Traitor.” Among vets, this is a serious accusation.

It’s stunning that the Commander in Chief of the United States armed forces would disrespect his troops to such an extent. It’s stunning and it’s dangerous––how can we expect our troops to be loyal to the United States when their leader calls them “suckers” and “losers”? I’m curious to see how Trump’s Republican supporters will justify this.
