Trump’s joke about 2 year extension raises eyebrows
Posted by Annie May / May 7, 2019Donald Trump once again raised eyebrows on Sunday with a tweet suggesting (joking?) that he should get extra years of office because of the Mueller investigation.
“Despite the tremendous success that I have had as President, including perhaps the greatest ECONOMY and most successful first two years of any President in history, they have stolen two years of my (our) Presidency (Collusion Delusion) that we will never be able to get back…The Witch Hunt is over but we will never forget. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
In addition, Trump retweeted Jerry Falwell’s tweet, which read (in part): “Trump should have 2 yrs added to his 1st term as pay back for time stolen by this corrupt failed coup.”
For many, the tweet raised the specter of a Trump tyranny once again. Last week, Nancy Pelosi warned that Trump might not want to give up power in 2020; this tweet has fueled that fire.
Trump supporters and more moderate Democrats, of course, believe that tyranny is impossible. It certainly is hard to imagine how a real tyranny would take hold. If Trump wanted to maintain his power after 2020 (should he be voted outed) or if he wanted to extend his term another two years, he would need a significant portion of the government bureaucracy on board. That would never happen, right?
More politics.
Almost like he’s serious. hmmm.
