What will happen when the Queen dies
Posted by Josh Taylor / November 19, 2017Although we hate to think about it, at some point the current Queen of England will pass away at some point. When her death comes, it will trigger a series of protocols about which you have likely never thought. This is what they might be. First, important world leaders will get a phone call with a secret phrase (“London bridge has fallen”), letting them know that the queen has passed. Every news station in the country has a blue light in their station; that light will turn on and somber music will start playing. The news will then take over the programming and make the announcement. There’s even more––take a look.

Posted by Josh Taylor / November 19, 2017Archimedes once said that if you give him a place to stand and a large enough lever, he could move the world. These behavioral scientists use a technique called “nudging” to get people to make slight modifications to their behavior. Those slight modifications, on a macro scale, end up having real consequences on the world.

Posted by Josh Taylor / November 18, 2017Everyone knows that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand sparked a series events that led to World War One. But this video offers a rereading of the history, digging farther back into the history of military spending in Europe in the years leading up to the war and asking, “Why was there such an arms race?” The video traces that arms race to the psychological hangups of one German leader, and his obsession with building a bigger, better navy.

Posted by Josh Taylor / November 18, 2017A speech jammer is pretty much just what it sounds like. It jams your speech by delaying your auditory perception, making it difficult to tell if you’re even talking or not. The result is that you sound like you’re periodically losing your ability to speak or even think clearly. So naturally the guys at Good Mythical Morning attached themselves to a speech jammer and made a prank call to a hotel, asking for a path of hummus leading to a bed and pillows made of pita. The results are, predictably, hilarious.

Read MoreFoods chefs will never order at restaurants
Posted by Josh Taylor / November 16, 2017When it comes to experts in restaurant foods, chefs are probably top of the pecking order. In other words, you should listen to them when they tell you what foods to avoid––and some of these foods are surprising. Chicken, for example, seems like a safe bet. But the problem is many restaurants overcook chicken for fear of making their customers sick, leaving the chicken dry. Kobe beef, the famous Japanese delicacy, is another risky bet thanks to some labeling confusion between Kobe beef and Wagyu.
