Don’t be fooled, 97% of experts agree about climate change
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 22, 2018The most effective way to undermine climate change is to suggest that there is a debate about its veracity. But is that true? Is there really a debate about whether the climate is changing? As this video explains, there absolutely is not. Unless you call three disagreeing against ninety-seven a “debate.” This video also explains how these numbers were determined, and it is not just a compilation of papers. It was really a study of studies.
Read MoreWhy super speed would be a terrible superpower
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 22, 2018With all the superhero movies coming out, you might be thinking about what kind of superpower you would want. Some will say flight, some will say super strength, and some will say super speed. Now there are problems with all of them, and this spoilsport ruins the strength in another video. But this video is about why super speed would be so bad. First, the acceleration. Your body would be turned to mush. Next, if you really did move at supersonic speeds, you’d be unable to see anything. The world would be a blur.

Posted by Josh Taylor / April 21, 2018It may seem that the f-word is just a curse, something you throw around when you are angry or frustrated. There’s not a lot of art to the word, unless you’re trying to make a movie rated PG-13. If that is the case, then you need to limit the number of times you say the f-word to one or two. And even then, the f-word can only be used in certain contexts. So there’s an art to using the word.
Read MoreHere’s what Roman gladiators were really like
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 20, 2018When you think of gladiators, you might think of the Russel Crowe flick by the same name. Perhaps you think that two prisoners of war were thrown into an arena and forced to fight to the death. Or perhaps one gladiator was supposed to fight a lion and, hopefully, get eaten. But that’s not the case at all. In fact, gladiators were highly skilled and highly trained fighters, and therefore very expensive. It would be very bad business to let them kill each other.
Read MoreHow censorship helped shape Batman: The Animated Series
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 20, 2018Batman: The Animated Series was one of the great children’s cartoons of all time. Its soundtrack, its animation, its storytelling, and its thematic explorations were all second to none. But what few people know is that the show was actually pretty heavily censored. Animators weren’t supposed to show guns, alcohol, drugs, certain types of violence, and more (all depicted in the image for this post). This video makes a good case that censorship actually helped shape the show.

Posted by Josh Taylor / April 20, 2018As we watch foot after foot of snow falling in the Midwest and rain pounding the Northeast, we have to stop to wonder: is this global warming? Hopefully you caught that little trick. It’s not technically global warming, it’s climate change. The climate is changing overall, and what we’re experiencing right now can be attributed to climate change. More specifically, our current wild weather could be due to dramatically changing weather in the Arctic.
Read MoreThe negative health impacts of chronic stress
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 19, 2018Chronic stress is obviously a bad thing––it’s in the title, after all––but how bad is chronic stress? And what is stress, anyway? Stress is essentially your body’s response to danger. You’re triggered into thinking that you need either to fight or to run. That makes your body focus its energy on those things and away from other things, like fighting colds and other infections or digesting your food. After long-term exposure to stress, this is what happens to your body.
Read MoreDoes stretching before exercise help?
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 19, 2018Your middle school gym coach probably taught you a whole stretching routine that you are supposed to do before you exercise. You know, touch your toes and then do the butterfly stretch thing and then probably cross your arms over your chest. But does that actually work? Well, yes and no…mostly no, though. In fact, some studies offer pretty serious evidence that static stretching actually hurts your performance in exercise. Learn more about how to properly prepare for exercise in this video.
Read MoreWhy McMansions are the worst houses ever
Posted by Josh Taylor / April 19, 2018Imagine a Texan ranch house. Imagine a Victorian. Imagine a midwestern red brick house. Finally, imagine a bank. Now put them all in a blender and combine them. That is a McMansion. It’s an architectural hodgepodge, it’s a horrible mess, and people hate them––except the people who live in them, of course. So what’s the deal with these McMansions? This Washington Post video explains that they’re basically designed to imitate banks for a reason: status symbols.
