Many of the most popular songs of the last decade or so have sampled popular songs of decades past. For those of you in the younger crowd, this video will be an interesting look at where your favorite artists get some of their music, which sheds light on the kinds of music that inspires them. For those of us in the older crowd, we can see our favorite songs from our youth given new life.

The Civil War is kind of like the fulcrum balancing U.S. history up until now. It was such a significant event that it seems as though history from the colonial period through the 1850s was all leading to the Civil War. After the war, many of our current social issues point back to the war. That being said, there are fewer events in U.S. history worth knowing well than the Civil War, with the possible exception of Reconstruction. 

We are often taught to take our destiny into our own hands, and that if we shoulder enough responsibility the we can do anything. Well, part of that is definitely right. Sometimes, though, things are out of our control. At those times, it helps to consider the Daoist (sometimes spelled Taoist) philosophy of wu wei. In its briefest and simplest version, wu wei means “go with the flow.” This video explains the philosophical underpinnings of Daoism and wu wei.

If you’re confused about the diet, the science behind it, and the alleged results, take a look at this video. As you might expect, the science behind the keto diet is iffy at best. H. Jon Benjamin voices the character Bob Belcher from Bob’s Burgers. On the show, Bob waxes philosophical about his love of beef and burgers and about his creativity as a burger artist. One of the character even calls him a beef artist, or a “beefartist.” Even though there’s a cookbook for all of Bob’s beautiful beef creations, H. Jon Benjamin has never tried on of Bob’s Burgers. In this video, he tries some for the first time. 

Some clocks verify the time by tracking the power grid they’re attached to. Because the frequency of the power that goes through the grid is stable over time, clocks can maintain their accuracy. But there’s a problem on the continent. Kosovo is low on power and Serbia isn’t helping manage that power problem, so the entire European system (which is one big, connected grid) is running behind. The Joker character represents the opposite of Batman. Where Batman is order and justice, the Joker is chaos and injustice. Where Batman is straight-laced, the Joker is “funny,” but an unwholesome kind of a funny. That makes The Room’s Tommy Wiseau the best person to play the Joker. Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” was the breakout horror hit of last year. You can tell that this movie wasn’t just a one-off hit. This movie has legs. How can you tell? Because the sheer number of fan theories about the movie suggests that people are thinking deeply about this movie. Some of these theories are absolutely on target, according to Peele, but others are…well…let’s just say substance induced. And Peele’s responses are hilarious, too boot.

Thor: Ragnarok was the latest in the Thor movie franchise, and part of the continued expansion of the Marvel Universe. Like most Marvel movies, it’s a lot of fun, it’s well made, and it’s perfect for an Honest Trailer. This trailer points out all the most ridiculous aspects of the latest Thor movie, including the gratuitous abs shots, the irony of Thor’s continuous battle with electricity, and the new infusion of humor into the franchise. 

We have all noticed it––there’s a huge difference between how our singing voices sound, say, in the car and in the shower. So if you think that your shower singing vice is much better than your singing voice elsewhere, you’re not wrong. The shower has a few qualities that change the quality of our voice. The flat, reflective surfaces (usually tile) add reverb to our voice, which hides the fact that most of us sing off key.

A lemonade company added blockchain to their company name. Their stock price tripled. What in the actual heck? It warns about the cryptocurrency craze, and the tendency of people to hop on board a speculation train without thinking through the consequences.
