Police pup finds 60lbs of meth on first bust
Posted by Josh Taylor / May 24, 2018Rye the police dog was only commissioned in April, so he’s still relatively new on the job. He’s likely had a handful of traffic stops, but nothing came up for him. Maybe he and his partner were feeling a bit bad about themselves, like they didn’t have a mojo or something. But they watched Turner and Hooch a feel times and managed to up their game. It worked. Rye just had his first bust, and it was a whopping sixty pounds of meth.

Posted by Josh Taylor / May 24, 2018Pedophilia is among the most controversial subjects possible. The very word is enough to turn most people’s stomachs, and with good reason. But this video might challenge your understanding of pedophilia. Todd Nickerson has made it his mission not only never to engage in sexual activity with a child, but to help people understand that pedophilia is a mental condition that can be controlled through standard self-discipline. It’s an intense video, to be sure, but it’s worth a watch.

Posted by Josh Taylor / May 24, 2018John Oliver took a week off of Donald Trump to expose another critical problem in the United States: the lack of oversight of rehabilitation centers. These centers, as Oliver points out, operate without any real oversight and exist solely for one purpose––making money. Centers take in anyone they can, sometimes even cruising down the street looking for homeless drug addicts who happen to have insurance, and provide sub-par and unproven care in exchange for maxing out insurance payouts.

Read MoreHow social media leads to depression
Posted by Josh Taylor / May 23, 2018By now, most people who use social media––and specifically Facebook––know that using Facebook often leads to feel a little depressed. Even some former founders or early employees of Facebook have commented on this. So while it may be obvious that Facebook is linked to depression, we should ask why Facebook has this effect. This video explains that Facebook use causes a dopamine hit, but often Facebook gives us information that we don’t want or care about. So there’s a major discrepancy between stimulus and feeling.

Posted by Josh Taylor / May 23, 2018The video is beguiling at first, but if you take one or two watches you’ll start to see a few themes. First, note how guns are treated in the video. Guns get more respect than people do. There are also some racial themes that require background knowledge; f0r example, one of Childish Gambino’s poses looks like a Jim Crow era poster.
Read MoreWhy Evangelicals support Israel
Posted by Josh Taylor / May 22, 2018American Christians are the largest pro-Israel voting block on the planet, including Jews in Israel. Taking a trip through the United States South, for example, sometimes looks like you’re traveling through Israel itself thanks to all the billboards, posters, and bumperstickers on the subject. If you’ve ever wondered why that’s the case, take a look at this video, which explains that U.S. Christians are so pro-Israel because many believe that the end times will only begin with a Jewish-controlled Israel.
Read MoreHow the US media perpetuates the cycle of violence
Posted by Josh Taylor / May 22, 2018You are not alone if you think that mass shootings are happening more frequently and causing more fatalities. This video is about how the cycle of mass shooting violence works, and what might perpetuate it. It’s important to note that this video is not about gun control or the Second Amendment. Instead, it’s about cable news. Think about it: Who profits off mass shootings? Two groups: gun companies (sales spike after shootings) and news outlets. News outlets need mass shootings to fill their twenty-four hour cycles.

Posted by Josh Taylor / May 22, 2018A little over a month ago, two black men were arrested at a Starbucks. They had not made a purchase but still sat in the store, leading the store manager to treat them as trespassers and called the police. The public backlash led Starbucks to close all of its stores for a special training. From the article, “Starbucks said it has told workers to consider anyone who walks into its stores a customer, ‘regardless of whether they make a purchase.'”

The first few seconds of this video show you why. Gasses expand as you surface from deep underwater dives. That means, in blunt, that your lungs will literally burst if you hold your breath while surfacing. This video explains the science behind this terrifying phenomenon and shows you some excellent demonstrations of how it works.

Posted by Josh Taylor / May 21, 2018Many people mistakenly believe that Catholics view homosexuality as a sin. The latest meeting between Pope Francis and a gay man, Juan Carlos Cruz, may help put those mistaken notions to rest. The Pope allegedly told Cruz, “Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter. God made you like this and loves you like this and I don’t care. The pope loves you like this. You have to be happy with who you are.”

Posted by Josh Taylor / May 21, 2018Anyone who went to public school knows the burden of standardized tests. We’ve got yearly state testing, not to mention all of pre-college testing and preparations. But what good are all those tests when our education system ranks so low? We rank far lower, for example, than Finland, and they take stunningly fewer tests than we do here in the States. This video examines the usefulness of testing and also digs into the question of whether we are over-testing our students.
